District Policy Regarding Communicable Diseases

District Policy Regarding Communicable Diseases

The West Deptford Township School District developed policies regarding communicable diseases for the protection of the students and their families and to prevent the spread of contagious diseases within the school community. Prevention and control of communicable disease is a shared responsibility between schools, health care providers, parents, students, and local and state health departments, as well as other community partners. While the school environment is conducive to the acquisition and transmission of communicable disease, it is also a setting where good preventative practices can lessen the impact of these diseases. Please refer to the link below for some general guidelines from the New Jersey Department of Health on school exclusion for the control of outbreaks in school settings.

If there are any questions about your child’s return to school after illness, please check with the school nurse as a written doctor’s note may be required in order to return to school. Please inform the school nurse of any communicable disease your child has as well as any additional immunizations. The control of the spread of communicable disease is essential to the well-being of our entire school community and to the efficient operation of the school district.
